As reported by 12 NEWS:
The Wichita Police Department (WPD) arrested a 14-year-old from Wichita following the deaths of two teenagers early Saturday morning.
WPD said officers responded to the area of 5200 E Kensington at 11:56 p.m. Friday due to reports of shots being fired. Officers were also dispatched to a local hospital on the report of two walk-in shooting victims around the same time.
WPD said 14-year-old Emoni Shears and 19-year-old Jhiquez Roberts later died at the hospital.
The investigation led to the arrest of a 14-year-old on two counts of felony murder and one count of juvenile in possession of a firearm. WPD said everyone involved in the shooting knew each other and were meeting at the location of the shooting.
Wichita Police Chief Joe Sullivan released a statement Saturday in regards to the shooting.
“Receiving notifications about shootings is always disheartening, and it becomes even more saddening when it involves the loss of a child’s life. This has to stop. As a community, we must demonstrate to our young people that there are alternatives to violence.”
The investigation is ongoing.
