A Charleston man is in custody and charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Kanawha County deputies arrested Markus Deron Guy, 31, Wednesday afternoon just a few hours after the bodies of a 14-year-old boy and Alisha Brooke Carnefix, 39, were found inside a house in St. Albans.

According to a criminal complaint, Guy used a pistol to kill his girlfriend’s mother and brother. The two victims died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Guy was arraigned sometime around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in Kanawha County Magistrate Court.

He will be held at the South Central Regional Jail without bond and await court proceedings. A

preliminary hearing has been set for Thursday, Feb. 15.

Deputies responded to a house at 35 Sapphire Road at around noon Wednesday after two people had walked into the Charleston Police Department downtown precinct at around 11:30 a.m. and reported two deaths.

Sgt. Josh Lester, with the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department, said Guy was with his girlfriend, Shelby Frazier, when the two reported the incident to Charleston Police.

“They notified them of the murder so he was one of those people that was being interviewed,” Sgt. Lester said.

Deputies determined through the interview process that Guy would be taken into custody and charged with murder. They also determined that Guy did know the victims. The relationship is still under investigation.
